On Record is a project devised by Freya Dooley and Cinzia Mutigli who will invite artists making audio work to experiment with compilation, words and sampling with a DIY approach. Alongside their posters which can be spotted throughout the city, Freya and Cinzia will be commissioning new sound works or performances by artists who use analogue processes. On Record celebrates vinyl and the pace, mood and painstaking editing process of the mixed tape.
Throughout the week, Freya and Cinzia invite the public to share their homemade or collected musical memorabilia in the project space and reminisce with them about teenage kicks and the angst of chewed up cassettes. On Record will be a social space for shared listening, as well as somewhere to flick through DIY zines, lyric sheets and artist records. Mugs of tea will aid conversation about the sounds, objects and collections. Look out for artist performances and events on Wednesday 29 October and Saturday 1 November.
Cardiff Contemporary is a biennial festival that pulls together a critical mass of visual arts and design activity for a concentrated period during the autumn. The festival includes Artes Mundi; Experimentica; Made in Roath and Outcasting : Fourth Wall festivals and also includes programmes from galleries and arts spaces which include: Chapter; Ffotogallery; g39 and other artist-led initiatives. Cardiff Contemporary is a Cardiff Council Initiative co-funded by Arts Council Wales and developed in partnership with Cardiff’s visual art, design and architecture communities.
Cardiff Contemporary 2014 will run from October 3rd to November 9th.
